About UNEP and the Role
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the foremost global environmental authority, driving the environmental agenda worldwide and coordinating policy development to ensure sustainable development across United Nations bodies. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division actively collaborates with governments and partners to promote ecosystem-based sustainable solutions. This position supports UNEP’s objective to enhance the One Health approach that integrates environmental, animal, and human health to prevent health crises through proactive coordination.
Job Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and assessment of assigned programs and projects by monitoring progress, analyzing documents and reports, identifying challenges, suggesting corrective measures, and coordinating with stakeholders.
- Facilitate consulting assignments collaboratively with clients by organizing workshops and interactive sessions and assisting in formulating actionable change management plans.
- Gather, analyze, and synthesize information from varied sources and prepare reports.
- Contribute to policy formulation through issue and trend analysis, evaluations, research, and studies.
- Design and conduct surveys, develop data collection instruments, analyze responses, identify challenges, and draw conclusions.
- Draft various written materials including background papers, report sections, evaluation inputs, and publication content.
- Provide substantive support for meetings and conferences, such as proposing agenda items, selecting participants, and preparing documentation and presentations.
- Lead outreach efforts including conducting training sessions, workshops, seminars, and delivering presentations on assigned subjects.
- Participate in or lead field missions, offer guidance to external experts and officials, and prepare mission summaries.
- Manage budget and funding-related activities encompassing project preparation, submissions, progress and financial reporting, and preparation of pledging and work programme documents.
- Analyze data to identify patterns and trends and present insights using visualization tools like graphs, charts, and tables to support informed decision-making.
- Carry out any other duties as required by the programme.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience managing projects or programs in One Health, biodiversity, climate-related, or pollution-related health fields.
- A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in developing countries.
- At least two years working within international organizations such as the United Nations.
Preferred Experience
- Experience collaborating in international interagency health and environmental initiatives.
- Two or more years of experience in data analytics or a related discipline.
Educational Background
- A master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Interdisciplinary Studies, Social Sciences, or related subject is required.
- Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree plus qualifying experience may be accepted.
- Completion of degree or non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is advantageous.
Languages
- English proficiency is mandatory as it is the working language for this position.
- French is desirable but not mandatory.
