Overview
AtkinsRéalis is expanding its team to meet the rising demand for specialized expertise in the nuclear sector. We have multiple openings for Piping Stress Engineers with 5 to 12 years of experience in piping systems and pressure vessel design. These roles will be based in our Bangalore, Mumbai, or Gurgaon offices and involve working across industries such as Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Nuclear Power, Civil, Conventional Power, and related sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply strong concepts in piping stress analysis to perform stress and support analyses on critical piping systems.
- Conduct both static and dynamic analyses, including Time History and Response Spectrum methods, on complex piping structures.
- Calculate PSV reaction forces, steam hammer effects, hydraulic forces, and two-phase slug forces.
- Design wear pads, trunnion supports, and saddle supports.
- Develop Piping Stress Design Guidelines aligned with project needs and review stress reports, equipment general arrangements, fluid reaction forces, seismic anchor movements, model breakups, and critical line lists.
- Generate support load data for structures and validate primary supports; knowledge of secondary support validation is an advantage.
- Select and calculate spring hangers, expansion joints, struts, snubbers, and prepare datasheets for specialized piping supports.
- Provide engineering guidance to resolve plant integrity issues in operational assets and perform flange leakage assessments using various techniques.
- Draft technical notes and stress analysis reports that adhere to project specifications.
- Coordinate with all project stakeholders and other discipline experts to resolve technical matters in their specialization.
- Deliver high-quality work within set deadlines independently or within teams, adapting to project requirements as necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E., B.Tech, M.Tech, or equivalent).
- Experience in nuclear, power, oil & gas, or other highly regulated industrial environments.
- Proven background in piping design, pipe supports, and layout as well as mechanical design and assessment.
- Expertise in static, dynamic, and thermal stress analyses.
- Familiarity with piping fabrication, installation, and testing processes.
- Experience working with analysis software such as CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, PipeStress (PepS), STAAD or RSTAB, and Nozzle Pro.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and CAEPIPE; knowledge of E3D, P3D, SP3D, and other equipment design platforms is highly desirable.
- Understanding of material selection and international codes and standards, including ASME BPVC Section III NC & ND, RCC-M, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, BS EN 13480-3, plus various ASME/ASTM and API standards.
- Familiarity with mechanical design best practices, fabrication, installation, testing, inspection, quality assurance, and control is preferred.
- Ability to operate independently or as part of a team with a flexible approach to tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office; experience in developing digital tools is desirable.
- Proven problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills with excellent communication and presentation abilities, particularly in producing technical reports such as design substantiations and safety case support documentation.
- Willingness to travel internationally to Atkins or client sites as needed.
