Project Design & Planning Engineer

About the Role

BROAD Air Conditioning India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of BROAD Group active in India for over 25 years, is searching for a diligent Project Design & Planning Engineer based in Surat, Gujarat. This role involves comprehensive involvement in the design, engineering, and execution of HVAC systems, particularly vapor absorption machine (VAM) chillers and associated waste heat recovery technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for VAM chillers and utilities.
• Create precise piping layouts addressing routing, sizing, and materials.
• Design instrumentation schemes including selection and positioning of sensors, valves, transmitters, and control devices.
• Produce and manage engineering drawings utilizing CAD and BIM tools like AutoCAD to comply fully with project specifications, regulatory codes, and client demands.
• Assist in project planning, scheduling, and coordination alongside sales, service, and site teams to ensure engineering deliverables meet project deadlines.
• Engage with clients, consultants, and EPC contractors for approval processes and technical clarifications.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and discussions.
• Support sales through technical proposals, concept layouts, and tender documentation preparation.
• Provide troubleshooting assistance and optimization inputs for existing installations when needed.
• Assess site conditions to inform installation planning and support site teams during implementation to ensure design accuracy.
• Maintain adherence to engineering standards, safety protocols, and company policies, including rigorous documentation and version control of technical drawings and data.

Required Skills and Competencies

• In-depth knowledge of P&ID interpretation and development is essential.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD 2D; familiarity with 3D CAD and BIM software is advantageous.
• Practical experience in piping design, layout planning, and material specification for industrial projects.
• Understanding of instrumentation design principles and control philosophy.
• Prior exposure to HVAC systems, especially vapor absorption machines (VAM), is preferred.
• Knowledge of relevant engineering standards such as ASME and ANSI.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

Educational Background and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
• Between 3 to 7 years of relevant experience focused on piping design, HVAC systems, or industrial engineering projects.
• Experience in EPC projects, HVAC, or energy systems industries will be considered preferable.

Deliverables and Performance Goals

• Timely and accurate submission of P&IDs and detailed piping layout drawings.
• Production of high-quality CAD documentation requiring minimal revisions.
• Efficient coordination with internal teams and external clients and contractors.
• Providing solid technical support to facilitate successful project execution and completion.
