Generative AI Architect

Overview

HCLTech AI Labs is seeking a seasoned AI Architect to develop and lead the design and delivery of cutting-edge, interoperable AI platforms. Based in Noida with a hybrid work model, this role involves crafting architecture that integrates frontier AI models like Azure OpenAI and Gemini with cost-efficient small language models and edge inference. The architect will work across major cloud platforms, driving forward advanced agentic AI solutions that revolutionize business operations and enable hybrid workforce capabilities.

Core Responsibilities

• Define and oversee reference architectures for multi-agent AI systems utilizing hierarchical, peer-to-peer, and sequential orchestration patterns.
• Design integrated memory systems handling short-term session context, long-term knowledge storage via vector databases and knowledge graphs, and episodic memory for auditing.
• Develop end-to-end retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines encompassing chunking, embedding, vector search, reranking, and ensure observability and traceability.
• Establish decision frameworks for cross-cloud and vendor platform integration while managing risks of vendor lock-in.
• Architect GenAIOps practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability with metrics on token usage, latency, hallucination, and cost control.
• Implement enterprise-wide AI safety, security, and governance guardrails including prompt injection defense, PII masking, bias detection, and HITL workflows aligned with NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001 standards.
• Design scalable and compliant integrations for agentic AI systems with enterprise platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID, Teams, Salesforce, ERPs, and Kubernetes compute infrastructure.
• Lead technical and strategic client engagements, advising C-level executives on AI adoption strategies and best architectural practices; mentor architects and influence industry thought leadership.

Required Qualifications

• 8 to 10+ years of experience in technical leadership roles with expertise in software engineering and cloud architecture at scale.
• Strong architectural experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, GCP, or AWS) plus hands-on knowledge of another.
• Proven knowledge in generative AI and large language model architecture, including experience with platforms such as Azure OpenAI and Vertex AI.
• Expertise in designing complex RAG pipelines and applying fine-tuning or instruction tuning techniques to language models.
• Outstanding communication skills, capable of advising senior executives on technology roadmaps, governance, and strategy.

Preferred Experience

• Deep familiarity with multi-agent systems design including task decomposition and collaborative agents.
• Architectural proficiency spanning multiple clouds—Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Experience utilizing GenAI operations tooling and application of AI governance standards such as NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001.
• Hands-on with orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel.
• Demonstrated thought leadership via publications, patents, conference presentations, or open-source contributions.
• Possession of advanced cloud certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Solutions Architect Professional.

Role Levels

• Senior Architect: Responsible for end-to-end reference architecture for select programs, leading design reviews, mentoring senior engineers, and representing HCLTech in client executive discussions.
• Principal Architect: Manages portfolio-level AI strategy across multiple clients, sets enterprise-wide standards and governance, influences global partners, drives AI cloud roadmap, and actively contributes to industry thought leadership and mentoring.

Eligibility and Education
