General Utility Worker

Position Overview

This role involves keeping kitchen areas, utensils, equipment, and plateware clean, sanitized, and orderly. It supports food preparation tasks and promotes a culture in line with the organization's core values and mission.

Primary Responsibilities

• Scrape and rinse food remnants from dirty dishes and load them into dishwashing machines, which comprises about 50% of the duties.
• Clean pots, pans, and trays either by hand or with machines (approximately 15% of tasks).
• Carry out assigned food prep tasks amounting to 10% of daily work.
• Dispose of trash by moving it to the dumpster, representing 10% of the job.
• Sanitize work surfaces including tables, walls, refrigeration units, kitchen equipment, and floors (5%).
• Clean garbage containers and trash bins (5%).
• Set up, maintain, and dismantle dishwashing machinery (5%).
• Frequently move cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
• Place plates, utensils, pans, and cases on shelves positioned at various heights.
• Primarily work indoors (90%) with occasional outdoor activity (10%).
• Operate effectively in generally hot and humid conditions.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations to ensure safety of self and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Mental agility to read and interpret various documents such as contracts and manuals and to write routine correspondence.
• Ability to perform practical problem-solving using limited standard instructions.
• Physical capability to perform tasks requiring sitting, standing for long durations, walking, handling objects, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds regularly.
• Exposure to loud noise, wet floors, and temperature fluctuations is expected.
• Essential vision skills include close focus and adjustment.
• Must be able to work in dynamic, team-based, fast-paced environments and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to accept and adapt to changes smoothly.
• Occasional travel to other locations may be required.
