Job description
Position Overview
The General Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining kitchen areas, equipment, utensils, and plateware in a clean and organized manner. This role supports food preparation tasks and helps uphold the company's culture aligned with its core purpose, vision, mission, and values.
Primary Responsibilities
- Scrape and pre-rinse food residue from dirty dishes, then load them into the dishwashing machine (50% of the time).
- Wash pots, pans, and trays manually or by machine (15%).
- Complete all assigned food preparation tasks (10%).
- Dispose of trash and garbage by transporting it to the dumpster area (10%).
- Clean kitchen work surfaces, walls, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and floors (5%).
- Sanitize garbage cans and waste containers (5%).
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle dishwashing equipment (5%).
- Handle physical tasks such as moving cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily and placing items on high and low shelves.
- Work environment includes mostly indoor settings (90%) with some outdoor exposure (10%) and frequent hot, damp conditions.
- Respond appropriately in emergencies to ensure safety for self and others.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to read and understand documents like manuals and instructions; write routine reports; and communicate effectively with groups.
- Capable of solving practical problems with limited standardization and interpreting varied instructions.
- Physical demands include frequent sitting, talking, hearing, walking, hand use, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting dish racks up to 40 pounds regularly, standing for long periods, and moving throughout work areas.
- Exposure to wet floors, loud noise, and temperature extremes.
- Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must work well within a team, handle a fast-paced environment, adapt to change, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Work Environment Considerations
- On some occasions, travel by automobile to different work locations may be required either alone or with a co-worker.
