General Utility Worker

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for maintaining kitchen areas, cleaning equipment, plateware, and utensils to ensure a sanitary and organized environment. The position also supports food preparation tasks and aligns with the organization's core principles and mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Scrape and pre-rinse food debris from dishes before loading them into the dishwasher, comprising about half of daily tasks.
• Wash pots, pans, and trays either manually or using dishwashing machinery.
• Perform all designated food preparation duties.
• Dispose of trash by transporting garbage to the dumpster area.
• Clean work surfaces, walls, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and floors regularly.
• Maintain cleanliness of garbage cans and trash receptacles.
• Assemble and disassemble the dishwashing machine as needed.
• Handle cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the day and organize items on various shelves.
• Work predominantly indoors with occasional outdoor duties, frequently in hot and damp conditions.
• Respond promptly and appropriately during emergencies to ensure safety.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Effective communication skills are required, including the ability to read, write, and interpret instructions and manuals. The role demands problem-solving capabilities in varied and non-standard situations. Physically, it involves frequent movement, standing for extended periods, lifting dish racks up to 40 pounds, and working under conditions such as wet floors, noise, and temperature fluctuations. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are necessary for task execution.

Psychologically, the candidate must thrive in team settings, adapt to a fast-paced environment, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain clear verbal and written communication.

Work Environment
