General Utility

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of kitchen workspaces, tools, dishes, and cooking equipment. The position supports food preparation tasks and promotes alignment with the company’s core values and mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Clearing and pre-rinsing food residues from used dishes and loading them into the dishwasher, making up approximately half of daily tasks.
• Washing pots, pans, and trays using either manual or mechanical cleaning methods.
• Performing designated food preparation activities as required.
• Regularly collecting trash and disposing of waste at designated dumpster areas.
• Cleaning work tables, walls, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and flooring to maintain a sanitary environment.
• Maintaining cleanliness of garbage bins and trash containers.
• Assembling, operating, maintaining, and disassembling dishwashing machinery as needed.
• Handling and transporting cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times per day.
• Placing kitchen items such as plates, utensils, pans, and cases on various shelving levels.
• Predominantly working indoors with occasional outdoor duties and frequently operating in hot, humid conditions.
• Responding promptly and effectively to emergency situations to protect self and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Language Skills: Ability to comprehend written materials including contracts and procedural manuals, write routine reports, and communicate clearly to customers and staff.

Mathematical Skills: Competency in solving practical problems and interpreting diverse instructions delivered in multiple formats.

Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, speaking, hearing, walking, and manual dexterity. Exposure to wet floors, temperature variations, and loud noises. Must regularly bend, stoop, and lift items up to 40 pounds and stand for extended durations. Visual acuity for close tasks is required.

Psychological Demands: Ability to thrive within a team, adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Work Setting: Work may occasionally require driving between locations individually or with a colleague. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as feasible.
