General Utility

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for upholding cleanliness and sanitation standards within kitchen areas, including maintenance of equipment, dishware, and utensils. This position supports food preparation efforts and promotes a work culture aligned with the organization's core principles including purpose, vision, mission, and values.

Key Duties

• Remove food residues from soiled dishes and load them into dishwashing equipment (approximately 50% of duties).
• Clean pots, pans, and trays manually or using machines (about 15% of the workload).
• Carry out prep tasks assigned by supervisors (10%).
• Dispose of trash by transporting it to designated dumpster areas (10%).
• Sanitize work tables, walls, refrigeration units, kitchen appliances, and floors (5%).
• Clean garbage bins and waste containers (5%).
• Set up, operate, maintain, and dismantle dishwashing machines (5%).
• Physically manage cases weighing up to 50 pounds, moved up to 20 times daily.
• Organize plates, utensils, pans, and cases on shelves at various heights.
• Work primarily indoors (~90%) with some outdoor tasks (~10%).
• Adapt to hot and humid work conditions.
• Be prepared to respond promptly in emergencies to ensure personal and coworkers’ safety.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements

Language: Ability to comprehend documents such as contracts, manuals, and instructions; capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively among staff and customers.

Math: Comfortable solving practical issues requiring understanding of given instructions in various formats.

Physical: Frequent demands include sitting, talking, hearing, walking, manipulating objects with hands, and reaching. The role involves exposure to wet floors, loud noise, and temperature extremes. Capable of lifting dish racks up to 40 pounds regularly, standing for extended periods, bending, and moving throughout workspaces. Near vision acuity necessary.

Mental: Success requires teamwork, adaptability to fast-paced environments, willingness to embrace change, and effective verbal and written communication.

Working Environment
