General Utility

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in kitchen areas, as well as assisting with food prep tasks. The position supports the organization’s core values and mission.

Key Duties

• Scrape and pre-rinse food debris from dirty dishes and load them into dishwashing machinery (approximately 50% of duties).
• Clean pots, pans, and trays manually or using machines (around 15%).
• Perform all assigned preparation work related to food (approximately 10%).
• Remove waste and transport garbage to the dumpster area (about 10%).
• Wash work tables, walls, refrigeration units, cooking equipment, and floors (around 5%).
• Clean garbage containers and trash receptacles (5%).
• Set up, maintain, and disassemble dishwashing machines (5%).
• Move cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
• Place plates, utensils, pans, and cases on both high and low shelving units.
• Work predominantly indoors (~90%) with occasional outdoor duties (~10%).
• Frequently operate in hot and humid conditions and respond quickly in emergencies to ensure safety.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements

• Read and comprehend documents such as contracts, instructions, and manuals; write routine reports and communicate effectively in group settings.
• Apply practical problem-solving skills in varying and sometimes unstructured situations; interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and scheduled instructions.
• Perform physical activities including sitting, talking, hearing, walking, manipulating objects, and reaching; endure wet floors, temperature extremes, and loud noises.
• Ability to bend, stoop, lift dish racks weighing up to 40 pounds regularly, stand for long durations, and move across work areas.
• Visual acuity including close vision and focus adjustment required.

Psychological and Environmental Aspects

• Cope with mental demands such as teamwork under fast-paced conditions, adaptability to change, and clear verbal and written communication.
• Work environment may require occasional travel by car alone or with coworkers.
