General Utility

Position Overview

The General Utility role is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of kitchen areas, equipment, dishes, and utensils. This role also supports food preparation tasks and contributes to fostering a company culture aligned with the TSFR Roadmap, including its core purpose, vision, mission, and values.

Key Responsibilities

• Scrape and pre-rinse food remnants from dirty dishes before placing them into the dishwashing machine, accounting for approximately 50% of job time.
• Hand-wash or machine wash pots, pans, and trays, which comprises around 15% of duties.
• Complete all required food preparation tasks, taking up about 10% of working hours.
• Dispose of trash and garbage by removing it to designated dumpster areas (10%).
• Clean work surfaces such as tables, walls, refrigeration units, cooking equipment, and floors (5%).
• Maintain cleanliness of garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%).
• Setup, operate, maintain, and disassemble dishwashing machinery (5%).
• Transport cases weighing up to 50 pounds, up to 20 times daily.
• Handle storage of plates, utensils, pans, and cases on both high and low shelving units.
• Work primarily indoors (90%) with occasional outdoor duties (10%) and in hot, humid environments.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations to ensure safety for self and others.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Language Skills: Ability to understand written documents such as contracts and manuals; write basic reports and correspondences; communicate effectively to groups of customers or coworkers.

Mathematical Skills: Capable of resolving practical problems and comprehending various types of instructions, whether written, oral, or diagrammatic.

Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, walking, talking, hearing, and manual dexterity. The job involves exposure to wet floors, loud noise, and temperature extremes. Regularly lifting and carrying dish racks weighing up to 40 pounds, standing for long periods, and moving between areas. Requires good close vision and ability to focus.

Psychological Demands: Ability to work collaboratively in teams within a fast-paced and adaptable environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Work Environment: Most work occurs onsite with occasional travel by automobile alone or with colleagues. Accommodations for disabilities will be considered if they do not cause undue hardship.
