Job description
Position Overview
The General Utility role is responsible for keeping kitchen areas, equipment, dishware, and utensils clean, sanitary, and well-organized. This role supports food preparation activities and contributes to fostering a culture consistent with the TSFR Roadmap, including the organization's Core Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Values.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-rinse and scrape food residues from dirty dishware and load into dishwashing machines, comprising approximately half of daily duties.
- Wash pots, pans, and trays manually or with machines.
- Carry out assigned food preparation tasks.
- Dispose of trash by transporting it to designated dumpster areas.
- Clean various kitchen areas including tables, walls, refrigeration units, cooking appliances, and floors.
- Clean garbage containers and trash bins.
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle the dishwashing machine.
- Transport cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
- Arrange plates, utensils, pans, and cases on shelves positioned both high and low.
- Perform work indoors predominantly, with occasional outdoor assignments.
- Frequently operate in hot and damp environments.
- Respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations to prevent harm.
Physical and Mental Demands
Employees must read and comprehend documents such as contracts, operating manuals, and procedures, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Mathematical problem-solving skills are necessary for interpreting various instructions presented in written, oral, or diagrammatic formats.
Physically, employees must handle frequent activities including sitting, talking, hearing, walking, using hands and fingers for tasks, and reaching. Work conditions involve exposure to wet floors, temperature changes, and loud noise. Regularly required to bend, stoop, and lift dish racks weighing up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and move within work areas. Good close vision and focus adjustment are essential.
Mental requirements include working well in team-based and fast-paced settings while demonstrating adaptability and clear communication capabilities. Occasionally, travel by car to other locations may be required.
