Job description

Position Overview

We are looking for a reliable and skilled General Operative to join the Repairs and Maintenance team in Exeter. This permanent full-time role offers a hands-on experience involving a blend of practical duties, customer interaction, and effective teamwork to ensure properties are maintained to high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist roofers by safely transporting, preparing, and handling roofing materials, tools, and equipment on site.
  • Support roofing activities by securing ladders, ensuring safe access, and complying with health and safety protocols.
  • Perform various general maintenance and laboring tasks as assigned to assist the broader team in property repairs and upkeep.
  • Help clear both occupied and vacant properties by removing waste, debris, and unwanted materials.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials safely around job sites to facilitate efficient work completion.
  • Maintain a tidy, safe, and organized working environment by cleaning work areas and removing hazards after job completion.

Candidate Criteria

  • Proven background in general operative, laborer, or property maintenance roles.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, customers, and contractors.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude, willing to assist in varied maintenance and property-related duties.
  • Familiarity with health and safety standards in construction, maintenance, or property environments.
