Ground Worker

About the Role

We are looking for a dependable and skilled Ground Worker to join our expanding team supporting a social housing contract in Cambridge. The position involves executing a variety of external repairs, maintenance, and improvement works on residential properties, focusing on maintaining safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing outdoor environments for tenants. This hands-on role covers a broad range of groundworks including paving, fencing, drainage systems, concreting, landscaping, and repairing steps and pathways.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform external repairs, maintenance, and improvement tasks across social housing properties.
• Install, repair, and maintain paving surfaces, slabs, pathways, and access routes.
• Construct, repair, and restore concrete bases, footings, hard standings, and related concreting work.
• Install and maintain fencing, gates, boundary structures, and other external features.
• Conduct drainage tasks including gulley clearing, pipe repairs, channel drainage, and soakaway installation.
• Engage in landscaping duties such as turfing, planting, garden reinstatement, and other external enhancements.
• Build, repair, and restore steps, kerbs, edgings, and similar external structures.
• Carry out minor brickwork, patch repairs, and reinstatement work as necessary.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, company policies, and site standards.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good operational condition.
• Work professionally and respectfully in occupied homes, ensuring clean and safe working areas.
• Document job details, materials used, and completion notes via handheld devices or job sheets.
• Identify and report additional work requirements, safeguarding concerns, or property issues.
• Participate in on-call out-of-hours emergency duties as required.
• Provide consistently high-level customer service and care.

Candidate Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in domestic repairs and maintenance as a Groundworker.
• Proven expertise in installing and repairing fencing.
• Experience in drainage installation, repairs, and renewals.
• Skilled in paving, concreting, landscaping, and general external maintenance.
• Possession of a full UK driving license.
• Ability to work autonomously and efficiently manage workload.
• Strong problem-solving and fault-detection skills.
• Excellent customer service abilities, especially when working in occupied residences.
• Good understanding of health and safety standards and safe work practices.
• Competency in using handheld devices or job management systems for recording work.
• Willingness to be part of an out-of-hours emergency rota.
• Commitment to delivering top-quality workmanship with attention to detail and productivity.

Work Conditions & Additional Information

• Annual salary up to 2,408.53
• Workweek consists of 42.5 hours, Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM
• Full-time permanent contract
• Company van provided along with a fuel card
