Role Overview
The General Manager for Nigeria is tasked with developing and expanding Taptap Send’s supply-side partnerships within Nigeria while driving user growth. This role requires overseeing all facets of growth including customer acquisition and retention strategies, pricing, user research, product quality, customer experience, and team leadership. Possessing full profit and loss responsibility, the GM aims to position Taptap Send as the leading product for remittances to Nigeria. Reporting to the Growth Director for Africa, this position involves managing growth managers in sending countries and representing Nigeria internally and externally.
Responsibilities
- Forge a clear vision and strategy for launching and expanding sending and receiving markets in Nigeria.
- Lead the Nigeria-based team to deliver against agreed objectives and timelines.
- Manage growth processes across sending markets, encompassing customer acquisition and retention, pricing, user insights, product and service quality, and team development.
- Provide regular reports to executive leadership with insights and progress updates, leveraging data-driven, experimental approaches.
- Innovate methods to boost growth, enhance profitability, and raise brand visibility.
- Recruit, motivate, develop, and retain a diverse, high-performing team.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams (Customer Service, Finance, Tech, Legal, Compliance, People Operations) and external partners.
- Establish trust-centric relationships with diaspora communities and commercial allies in Nigeria to drive growth and improve unit economics.
- Analyze and interpret key operational, growth, and financial metrics to refine execution.
- Suggest product enhancements based on market, competitor, and customer feedback.
Requirements
- Preferably based in London or Dubai, with willingness for periodic international travel to liaise with customers, partners, and teams.
- Deep expertise and networks within the Nigerian diaspora community.
- Proven ability in stakeholder management at a high level.
- Experience in building, managing, and leading effective teams.
- Strong analytical aptitude with data-driven decision-making skills; proficiency in Excel or Google Suite is essential, while SQL, Python or R are advantageous.
- Between 7 and 15 years of experience in fast-moving, high-growth environments such as startups, consulting, finance, or similar fields.
- A strong mindset characterized by ownership and focus on both individual user experience and scalable growth optimization.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification.
- Fluent English required; knowledge of local Nigerian languages such as Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa is a plus.
