Job description

About Cohere and the Role

Cohere is a leading enterprise AI company focused on building security-first foundational AI models and products that address tangible business challenges. Headquartered in Toronto with a global presence, including offices across major cities, Cohere aims to accelerate AI adoption by delivering models that empower business users.

The North platform is Cohere's innovative AI workspace tailored for enterprises, enabling secure, customizable deployments that preserve control over sensitive data. This platform seamlessly integrates AI agents with corporate tools and workflows.

Role Summary

This position enables the transformation of enterprise operations by integrating advanced AI solutions. Acting as a liaison between Cohere’s North product and client engineering teams, you will engineer AI workflows leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex issues in sectors like finance, healthcare, and telecommunications. The role involves building reliable, observable, and auditable agent workflows, progressing from prototype stages to production deployment with emphasis on enterprise-grade quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with enterprise customers to interpret and define high-impact, ambiguous business challenges into precise agent workflows with measurable evaluation metrics.
  • Lead the conceptualization, development, and implementation of LLM-powered agents that interact with tools, APIs, and sensitive data, ensuring robust performance and enterprise-grade reliability.
  • Contribute to the entire product life cycle of the North platform, delivering new features from ideation to production.
  • Manage end-to-end use case development, adapting to diverse technical domains, including frontend development, to produce optimal solutions.
  • Develop and maintain shared frameworks and standards to guarantee consistent and high-quality outputs across projects and teams.
  • Foster clarity in uncertain scenarios, align stakeholder expectations, and uplift engineering standards organization-wide.
  • Anticipate and accommodate 20-40% travel to collaborate onsite with clients and partners.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven expertise in deploying production-grade software using Python, with an emphasis on clean, scalable, testable, and observable code.
  • Experience building high-performing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic AI applications that can plan and execute multi-step tasks using frameworks such as ReAct or Plan-and-Execute.
  • In-depth knowledge of the LLM ecosystem, including working with frontier AI models, vector databases, and orchestration platforms.
  • Strong capability in designing rigorous evaluation frameworks to assess metrics like accuracy, safety, and latency beyond experimental methods.
  • Direct customer engagement experience, managing technical discussions with enterprise stakeholders to translate vague business requirements into clear technical specifications.
  • Track record of owning complex use cases throughout their entire lifecycle, delivering impactful business outcomes.
  • Thrives in dynamic, fast-evolving environments and remains effective under shifting priorities.

Additional Desirable Skills

  • Experience setting architectural and standard guidelines for AI and agentic systems across multiple teams.
  • The flexibility to adapt and contribute in unfamiliar technical areas such as frontend development when necessary.
  • Exposure to regulated sectors like finance, healthcare, or telecommunications.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-grade security, compliance, and auditability requirements for AI implementations.

Benefits and Work Culture

  • Weekly lunch stipend valued at $75 (or local equivalent).
  • Comprehensive health and dental coverage, including dedicated mental health benefits.
  • Contribution matching for retirement plans (RRSP, 401K, Pension Schemes).
  • Full parental leave top-up for up to six months available to either parent.
  • Annual enrichment benefits such as arts and culture, fitness and wellness, quality time, workspace upgrades, and learning stipends for conferences, courses, and coaching.
  • Six weeks (30 working days) of paid vacation.
  • Travel budget for remote workers to visit other company offices and attend an annual company-wide offsite event.

Work Environment and Remote Policy

  • Cohere embraces a remote-friendly culture with physical offices in several international locations.
  • Onsite employees enjoy daily catered lunches, snacks, and community events.
  • Remote employees receive coworking benefits to support collaborative workspaces and a one-time $500 stipend for home office setup.
