About Cohere
Cohere is a pioneering enterprise AI company focused on security-first foundation AI models and comprehensive products tailored to address practical business challenges. Operating globally from headquarters in Toronto and key offices worldwide, Cohere's mission is to advance AI adoption through cutting-edge technology and passionate teams of researchers, engineers, and designers.
About North Platform
North is Cohere's next-generation AI workspace platform, designed for secure, customizable enterprise AI deployment. It integrates AI agents with existing workplace tools securely, enabling businesses to connect AI workflows while safeguarding sensitive data.
Role Overview
As a Forward Deployed Engineer on the Agentic Platform team, you'll bridge Cohere's core North product with client engineering teams, delivering innovative AI-powered workflows driven by Large Language Models (LLMs). Your work will impact industries like finance, healthcare, and telecommunications by transforming ambiguous business needs into robust, enterprise-grade AI solutions that are reliable, auditable, and secure from the start. Travel requirements range from 20% to 40%.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with enterprise customers to identify and define complex business challenges into structured agentic workflows with clear success measures.
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of LLM-powered agents capable of planning and executing tasks across APIs, tools, and sensitive data with high reliability and performance.
- Develop and deliver new features for the North AI platform through all stages, from conception to production release.
- Own end-to-end use case implementation, adapting across technical domains, including frontend development, to provide optimal solutions.
- Contribute to shared frameworks and practices that ensure consistent high-quality outcomes across teams and projects.
- Clarify ambiguous requirements, foster consensus, and elevate engineering standards organization-wide.
- Commit to up to 40% travel to work directly onsite with clients and partners.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in building and deploying scalable production software using Python, producing clean, testable, and observable code.
- Demonstrated expertise in creating robust Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic applications, including multi-step planning agents using approaches like ReAct and Plan-and-Execute.
- Deep understanding of the LLM ecosystem, including frontier models, vector databases, and orchestration platforms.
- Capability to engineer sophisticated evaluation frameworks that accurately measure agent performance, safety, and latency beyond simplistic trial methods.
- Proven success in collaborating with enterprise customers, leading technical conversations, and converting ambiguous business objectives into detailed technical solutions.
- Track record of managing full scope responsibilities for complex use cases from inception through deployment.
- Ability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced, and uncertain work environments while maintaining execution focus despite shifting priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience establishing architectural standards for AI and agentic systems within distributed teams.
- Willingness and ability to extend skills to unfamiliar areas such as frontend development when required.
- Previous exposure to regulated or sensitive sectors like finance, healthcare, or telecommunications.
- Experience with enterprise-grade AI security, compliance, and auditability frameworks.
Work Location and Travel
Candidates based in the Middle East are welcome, with openness to travel or relocation as needed.
Employee Benefits
- Weekly lunch stipend of $75 (or local currency equivalent).
- Comprehensive health and dental insurance including dedicated mental health support funds.
- Retirement savings matching programs such as RRSP, 401K, or Pension Scheme.
- 100% parental leave top-up for up to six months for either parent.
- Annual enrichment allowance covering arts, culture, wellness, workspace improvements, education, and learning.
- Generous paid vacation totaling six weeks (30 working days).
- Travel budget for remote employees to visit other offices along with annual company offsite events.
Work Culture and Environment
- Remote-friendly policies supported by multiple global offices in major cities.
- Daily office lunches, snacks, and social events at onsite locations.
- Co-working benefits for remote workers to collaborate locally.
