Overview

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific's team as a Facilities Specialist, where your efforts contribute to a mission of making the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This role involves maintaining vital facility infrastructure and ensuring compliance with quality and safety regulations. You will collaborate with diverse teams while supporting science and technological advancements globally.

Work Environment and Schedule

This position follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule. The working environment includes cleanrooms with strict requirements prohibiting hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, and facial hair. Additional settings include cold rooms/freezers at -22°F/-6°C, laboratories, offices, warehouses, and working at heights. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gowns, gloves, lab coats, and ear plugs will be necessary. Exposure to strong odors from chemicals, lubricants, and biological products is to be expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain critical facility infrastructure and systems aligned with quality and safety standards.
  • Oversee daily operational activities, coordinate maintenance schedules, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage vendor partnerships, keep thorough documentation, and lead projects aimed at enhancing facility performance.
  • Ensure optimal operation of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and specialized laboratory and production equipment.
  • Support emergency response procedures and engage in audit preparations while adhering to GMP standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree plus at least 2 years of experience in facilities management or engineering in regulated environments, or hold a Diploma or tertiary education combined with 5 years of relevant management experience in facilities or engineering.
  • Preferred educational backgrounds include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related fields.
  • Technical certifications relevant to building systems, GMP compliance, or facilities management are advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems such as clean utilities, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building management systems (BMS).
  • Familiarity with GMP/GxP standards and quality management systems.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management alongside stakeholder and vendor relationship management.
  • Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory documents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Experience managing budgets and controlling costs.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Physical capability to lift weights up to 50 pounds and operate in various environmental settings.
  • English fluency required; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
  • Ability to respond promptly to facility emergencies.
  • Dedication to safety practices and environmental compliance.
