Position Overview
Join our Macraes exploration team in Otago for a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful and adventurous region. This role involves collecting geological data, supporting drill rig supervision, geological logging, sampling, and data interpretation. The position requires fieldwork both within mining operations and in outdoor exploration environments. You will work an eight-day on, six-day off roster, day shifts only, with opportunities for ongoing professional growth and training.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform detailed geological logging of drill core and reverse circulation (RC) chip samples.
- Select intervals for sampling and assist in those sampling processes along with laboratory submissions.
- Maintain and accurately input geological data into databases to ensure reliable records.
- Adhere to quality assurance and control protocols.
- Participate in planning and implementing drilling programs.
- Assist in interpreting geological and geochemical data relevant to exploration activities.
- Support the creation of resource models and assist with estimations.
- Contribute to the development of technical reports and regulatory documentation as necessary.
- Safeguard compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
- Share expertise and knowledge with colleagues to foster team performance improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in geology is mandatory; postgraduate qualifications (honours or higher) are highly valued.
- Possession of a full and current driver’s license, preferably including manual transmission capability.
- Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand is required.
- Two to five years of post-graduate experience within brownfields exploration.
- Experience includes coursework or projects related to economic geology.
- Previous mining industry experience is advantageous.
- A strong grasp of QA/QC methodologies is essential.
- Computer proficiency is expected, with experience in GIS, mining software, and database management considered beneficial.
Additional Information
- This is a residential role based in Otago, New Zealand.
- You will work on a roster of 8 consecutive days on followed by 6 days off, on a 12-hour day shift only schedule.
