Estimator - Structural Steel

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned Permanent Estimator specializing in Structural Steel to join our family-owned steel fabrication and erection company located in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. This vital position involves preparing precise cost assessments for various construction projects by analyzing plans, specifications, and performing quantity take-offs. Our ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of construction processes and materials, strong analytical and mathematical skills, and the ability to use industry-specific software tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate detailed cost estimates by thoroughly analyzing project plans and conducting quantity take-offs for specific trades.
• Create comprehensive and accurate bid proposals tailored for structural steel projects.
• Critically review and validate cost estimates to ensure they are complete and precise.
• Prepare and submit budget forecasts, progress updates, and cost tracking reports.
• Interpret and communicate contractual and technical information to various professionals involved in projects.
• Utilize specialized software such as Fabsuite, Fabtrol, and Tekla EPM for data analysis, forecasting, and budget management.
• Negotiate terms with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to secure favorable agreements.
• Keep up-to-date with the latest construction materials, techniques, and technologies to refine estimation processes.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and architects throughout the construction lifecycle to ensure cost-effectiveness and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years' experience in structural steel estimation within the construction sector.
• Proficiency in estimating software including Fabsuite, Fabtrol, Tekla EPM, and knowledge of AISC standards.
• Strong grasp of construction materials, processes, and relevant legal regulations.
• Exceptional mathematical ability paired with analytical thinking.
• Effective communication and skillful negotiation capabilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and capacity to perform well under pressure.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications accurately.
• Familiarity with cutting-edge construction technologies.
• Professional certification in estimating or equivalent is an advantage.
