Job description

Role Overview

Our client, a reputable construction company based in Dublin, is looking to recruit an experienced Estimator to join their team. This pivotal role involves preparing precise and competitive cost estimates while supporting commercial and estimating teams during pre-contract and tender phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and measurement take-offs derived from drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Analyze tender documents and site data to identify risks, exclusions, provisional sums, and commercial opportunities.
  • Source, evaluate, and compare quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Align quotations with project scope, timeline, and requirements.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, templates, and precedent estimating information.
  • Collaborate with design, commercial, and site teams to clarify technical issues and verify pricing assumptions.
  • Prepare comprehensive pricing breakdowns, cost summaries, and tender documentation for submission.
  • Identify potential cost-saving measures and manage commercial risks effectively.
  • Keep accurate estimating records, ensuring all documentation is current.
  • Engage in tender and bid meetings, log action items, and provide pricing status updates.
  • Adhere strictly to company procedures and comply with health & safety, quality, and data management standards in all estimating activities.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrable experience as a construction sector Estimator.
  • Background with main contractors, construction firms, or consultancies is advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of commercial tendering and pre-contract workflows.
  • Expertise in measurement take-offs and bill of quantities preparation.
  • Strong numerical abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Solid grasp of construction methodologies, materials, plant utilisation, and subcontractor procurement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with estimating software, cost databases, or document management systems is a plus.
  • Excellent organisational and time management, capable of handling multiple tenders and tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, confident in liaising with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Proactive mindset with commercial awareness and focus on solutions.
  • Adept at working independently as well as collaboratively within teams.
