About the Role
The Estimation Manager will lead and oversee estimation, tendering, variation pricing, and value engineering activities specifically for D01C contracts. This role involves producing accurate cost estimates, competitive bids, thorough commercial evaluations, and effective tendering approaches that support contractual compliance, profitability, and business growth.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the creation and submission of both technical and commercial tenders.
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract terms to ensure alignment.
- Develop strategic approaches for tendering and pricing.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, planning, and commercial teams during bid preparations.
- Assess project risks and available opportunities at the tender stage.
- Ensure tender proposals are submitted on schedule.
- Prepare and scrutinize detailed cost estimates and pricing frameworks.
- Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and cost analyses.
- Evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Set project budgets and cost benchmarks maintaining historical cost databases and documentation.
- Review and price project variations and change orders, evaluating their commercial impact.
- Prepare variation proposals with appropriate documentation and support project teams to verify quantities and variation requirements.
- Participate in negotiations regarding variation claims and monitor the status of approved and pending variations.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and propose cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for suggested alternatives and evaluate material substitutions and construction methods.
- Provide management with recommendations aimed at enhancing project value while ensuring compliance.
- Lead, mentor, and review work done by estimation and tendering team members.
- Improve estimation methodologies, templates, and procedures while encouraging knowledge sharing and capturing lessons learned.
- Perform additional duties as directed by management.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 13 to 15 years' experience in construction estimation, tendering, and commercial operations.
- Direct experience managing D01C contracts.
- Proven expertise in tender preparation, bid management, and detailed cost estimation.
- Skilled in pricing variations, handling change orders, and managing claims.
- Profound understanding of value engineering concepts.
- Experience leading estimation teams and coordinating with multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, project cost structures, and commercial management.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, CCP, MRICS, or equivalents are preferred.
