EHS Officer

Overview

This position involves comprehensive management and implementation of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols at the construction site. The role ensures strict compliance with various safety standards and continual engagement with clients, contractors, and internal teams to promote workplace safety and health.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare all essential EHS documentation including EHS plans, emergency response plans, and risk assessments.
• Participate in all EHS-related meetings with clients and project teams.
• Report any EHS concerns directly to the Head Office.
• Deliver EHS induction training sessions to new workers joining the site.
• Conduct daily inspections of assigned zones to ensure safety compliance.
• Oversee that Engineers/Supervisors obtain necessary safe work permits from clients and main contractors before commencing work.
• Perform risk assessments throughout the site and alert Site Engineers or clients about identified high-risk zones.
• Verify that weekly toolbox talks are effectively conducted by Engineers to reinforce EHS awareness among workers.
• Ensure personal protective equipment such as helmets, EHS shoes, and coveralls are worn by all personnel.
• Confirm that work equipment like ladders and scaffolds are maintained in safe, operable condition before use.
• Maintain satisfactory health and hygiene standards on site including providing adequate water, rest areas, lighting, and ventilation for workers.
• Ensure tidiness and appropriate housekeeping practices to minimize accidents.
• Conduct Job EHS Analyses on hazardous activities to mitigate risks.
• Motivate workers and engineers to strictly follow EHS procedures.
• Lead investigations alongside engineers for any minor or major incidents and communicate findings to prevent recurrence.
• Administer first aid or seek medical assistance in case of work-related injuries.
• Keep detailed records of all EHS activity documentation.
• Develop, monitor, and enhance integrated health, safety, and environmental management systems compliant with ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001 standards.
• Facilitate training programs on EHS topics for engineering staff and workers onsite and through HR-organized sessions.
• Identify hazards and evaluate risks for critical tasks ensuring method statements reflect these assessments.
• Prepare and coordinate EHS and Environmental Management Plans.
• Manage third-party EHS audits and equipment inspections.
• Organize Emergency Preparedness Plans and conduct safety drills.
• Promote a proactive 'stop work' policy when unsafe practices are noticed to encourage safety leadership.
• Perform monthly project Risk Management Audits and quarterly system audits.
• Compile periodic EHS performance reports for project and IC management.
