About the Role
Join G4S Care and Rehabilitation Services at HMP Parc in Bridgend as a full-time Environmental Operative. This role involves supervising prisoners assigned to the Waste Management Work Party and helping them develop skills necessary for employment after release. HMP Parc is a secure environment housing over 1000 male adult and young offenders, focusing on rehabilitation through normalising prison conditions and maintaining respectful relationships between staff and prisoners.
Core Responsibilities
- Adopt a flexible approach to work including working additional weekend hours when required.
- Collect and deliver waste bins as directed, ensuring cleanliness and correct placement.
- Supervise prisoners continuously during waste management activities.
- Sort and manage waste appropriately and report any repair needs promptly.
- Maintain security of Waste Management department and tools, including precise tool management and accurate prisoner roll counts.
- Collaborate with Security Department to implement dynamic security measures.
- Adhere to all relevant Health and Safety laws, ensure prisoners follow induction and wear proper PPE.
- Display health and safety signage and maintain risk assessments and safety procedures.
- Conduct safety pre-use checks for equipment and keep inspection records.
- Uphold the establishment’s No Smoking Policy at all times.
- Coordinate with the Allocation and Admissions Unit to meet prisoner employment quotas.
- Meet customer quality and production goals promptly.
- Encourage and challenge prisoners to develop strong work ethics for improved post-release employability.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork and records.
Qualifications and Skills
The position requires GCSE-level or equivalent education, solid literacy and numeracy skills, and familiarity with electrical industrial pressure washer operations. Candidates with flexibility and knowledge of cleaning methods are preferred.
Additional Information
