About the Role and Team
This remote role, open to candidates in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the UK, involves leading the Observability department, which helps developers monitor application and infrastructure health across environments by providing instrumentation, data ingestion into Grafana Cloud, and visualization tools. The Ingest team you will lead focuses on creating configuration and deployment tooling to simplify observability adoption. Key products owned include Fleet Management (a cloud-based control plane for managing large numbers of observability collectors), the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart for Kubernetes deployment, and the Instrumentation Hub that unifies these tools into a streamlined one-command experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a geographically distributed backend and frontend engineering team by providing feedback, coaching, and career development support.
- Partner closely with go-to-market teams to ensure customer success in observability collection initiatives.
- Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, Kubernetes Helm Chart, and Instrumentation Hub integrate smoothly within the Grafana Cloud product ecosystem.
- Guide projects from ideation through delivery, ensuring consistent high-quality outcomes.
- Create an inclusive, psychologically safe environment that fosters innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning.
- Work collaboratively across teams and functions to address customer challenges beyond immediate team responsibilities.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Experience with observability technologies (preferably OpenTelemetry) or building control planes handling large fleets of collectors is highly valued.
- Comfortable managing autonomous engineering teams making technical and product decisions independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills paired with up-to-date technical knowledge to effectively understand and support team challenges.
- Proficient in remote collaboration across different time zones and cultures, with clear and empathetic communication to build trust and psychological safety.
- Proven ability to navigate complexity, align diverse stakeholders, and enhance team performance while focusing on user impact.
- Deep customer orientation, grounding decisions in real-world user needs and outcomes.
- Solid grasp of distributed system concepts including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
- Curious and comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools to enhance workflow, ideally with experience integrating these tools within teams.
Compensation and Benefits
For candidates based in Ireland, the base salary band ranges from EUR 117,000 to EUR 137,000, adjusted based on experience and skills. All employees receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) to foster shared success and alignment with the company’s growth. Compensation details vary by country and will be discussed during recruiting for candidates outside Ireland.
