Role Overview

This role centers on advancing mobile instrumentation SDKs specifically for iOS, focusing on performance, developer usability, and stability to support comprehensive telemetry and observability. The mobile SDKs integrate tightly with OpenTelemetry and Grafana Cloud, targeting full-stack monitoring by seamlessly connecting mobile signals with backend and infrastructure telemetry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance iOS SDKs in Swift and Objective-C enhancing features such as session tracking, crash reporting, sampling, context propagation, and OpenTelemetry integration.
• Manage projects independently from conception through delivery, breaking down complex challenges into iterative, modular improvements.
• Ensure software quality via automated testing, continuous integration, proper documentation, and maintain backwards compatibility for upgrades.
• Collaborate extensively with backend, frontend, product, and engineering teams to deliver complete observability solutions.
• Participate actively in the open-source community by reviewing contributions, discussing design proposals, and guiding external contributors.
• Mentor junior colleagues, contribute to technical discussions, and help define the roadmap for mobile observability.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in iOS mobile engineering using Swift and Objective-C, with additional Android experience seen as a plus.
• Track record developing or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or developer-oriented platform code for external developers.
• Expertise optimizing performance-critical code focusing on startup time, memory footprint, and network efficiency with pragmatic tradeoffs.
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry concepts, instrumentation SDKs, collectors, or participation in their development or maintenance.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, capable of thriving in a fully remote, global team.
• A proactive, self-driven mindset, capable of working autonomously while engaging cooperatively with others.
• Passion for enhancing developer experience through documentation, mentoring, and roadmap input beyond coding duties.
• Comfortable handling ambiguous requirements by prioritizing progress and rapid iteration based on feedback.

Additional Assets

• Contributions to OpenTelemetry or related open-source observability libraries.
• Experience with cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter.
• Knowledge in mobile security, privacy issues, or platform integration challenges.
• Previous work involving crash aggregation, session replay, or telemetry sampling for mobile applications.

Compensation and Benefits

In Ireland, the salary band for this role ranges from €104,000 to €130,000 depending on experience and skills. Compensation packages include potential equity, bonuses, and other benefits tailored to the candidate’s location and market standards.
