Role and Responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems to guarantee high availability and performance.
• Develop and optimize robust data pipelines and ETL workflows utilizing Python, Spark, and Ray for complex, unstructured data processing.
• Build batch data processing systems that support analytics and machine learning projects.
• Incorporate Large Language Models (LLMs) like OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or similar into production environments, including workflows for personally identifiable information (PII) detection and redaction.
• Create and manage prompt engineering methodologies, fine-tuning pipelines, and assessment frameworks tailored for LLM applications.
• Enhance system efficiency and reduce costs through optimization of data processing jobs.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with applied scientists, subject matter experts, and engineering teams to ascertain data needs and develop durable solutions.
• Establish and uphold data quality frameworks and monitoring tools to maintain data accuracy and integrity.
• Diagnose and resolve complex data processing problems in live systems.

Work Arrangement

This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring the employee to divide their time between remote work and on-site presence in Dublin, Ireland, with a minimum expectation of two days per week in the office.

Required Qualifications

• At least five years of experience in data engineering or equivalent roles.
• Proficiency in Python for development of data engineering solutions and automation.
• Hands-on experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Ray.
• Skilled in integrating LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic) into applications using APIs, including prompt creation, parsing responses, and handling errors.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including data partitioning, sharding, fault tolerance, replication, consistency models, consensus algorithms, load balancing, and resource allocation.
• Familiarity with distributed file systems like Azure Data Lake, Amazon S3, or HDFS.
• Experience building RESTful APIs utilizing Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, notably Docker and Kubernetes.
• Competence in SQL and database performance tuning techniques.
• Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Experience with version control tools like Git and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or comparable practical experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Exposure to unstructured data formats such as text, images, video, and audio, alongside associated processing methods.
• Experience working across multiple cloud environments including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Understanding of data governance principles and best practices concerning information security.
• Knowledge of machine learning workflows and MLOps practices.
• Familiarity with orchestration frameworks for LLMs such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• Awareness of ethical AI practices including bias reduction, content filtering, and optimization of token usage for LLM-based tools.
• Contributions to open-source software projects.
• Excellent analytical skills to handle complex and ambiguous technical challenges.
• Strong communication capabilities facilitating teamwork and collaboration.
