Team and Role Overview
The Observability department delivers tools to help developers monitor the health and performance of applications and infrastructure in any environment. The Ingest team specifically builds the configuration and deployment tools connecting customers from desire to actual observability, managing Fleet Management (a cloud-based control plane), Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart (deployment in Kubernetes environments), and Instrumentation Hub (a combined one-command instrumentation experience).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a distributed team of backend and frontend engineers across EMEA and NASA, focusing on growth and career development.
- Collaborate with go-to-market teams to ensure customers successfully adopt observability collection.
- Partner with product and engineering leaders to ensure seamless integration of Fleet Management, Kubernetes Helm Chart, and Instrumentation Hub within Grafana Cloud's user experience.
- Guide projects through all phases from ideation to launch, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes.
- Create a psychologically safe environment that fosters learning, experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Engage beyond team boundaries, collaborating with other teams and functions to address customer challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with observability technologies, particularly OpenTelemetry, or building control planes managing large fleets of collectors.
- Comfort with autonomous engineering teams balancing technical and product decision-making.
- Up-to-date technical knowledge to understand evolving challenges faced by teams.
- Ability to work remotely across time zones and cultures with clear, empathetic communication, building trust and psychological safety.
- Proven skills managing complex projects, aligning diverse stakeholders, and driving team performance toward impactful results.
- Strong customer orientation, grounding decisions in real user needs and effects.
- Solid grasp of distributed systems concepts such as scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
- Interest and experience in integrating AI-assisted development tools into workflows to boost productivity and quality.
Compensation and Benefits
For candidates based in the UK, the base salary range is between GBP 103,000 and GBP 129,000, with final compensation reflecting level, experience, and skills. All roles include Restricted Stock Units, enabling ownership in Grafana Labs’ growth. Compensation varies by country. The company supports use of AI coding assistants as part of development, offers a fully remote and globally distributed culture, transparent communication, career growth opportunities, a high-trust and low-ego environment, and 30 days annual leave including company-wide shutdown days.
