Role Overview

In this leadership role, you will establish and lead a new AI engineering team based in Sydney with a global collaboration across teams in Ukraine and the US. Your primary focus will be managing the Enrich data-enrichment platform, which processes unstructured documents via advanced techniques like named-entity recognition and PII extraction, blending proprietary and third-party models. Additionally, you'll spearhead the broader AI strategy to create intelligent agentic features that transform user workflows.

You will be accountable for end-to-end delivery, team well-being, and establishing effective ways of working for a distributed team across both on-premises and SaaS platforms. Collaboration with product managers and architects is vital to drive the roadmap and technical vision forward. While not directly responsible for coding tasks, you will retain technical credibility to mentor and unblock the team.

Location and Work Arrangement

This position is based in Nuix’s Sydney office with a hybrid model requiring attendance at least three days per week in-office, allowing flexibility for remote work on the remaining days.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow an internationally distributed engineering team spanning Australia, Ukraine, and the US, focusing on hiring, onboarding, career progression, performance management, and daily support.
• Drive delivery by partnering with product management to plan, prioritize, handle risks and dependencies, and ensure timely, high-quality software releases across on-prem and SaaS environments.
• Translate strategic objectives into a coherent, actionable roadmap for AI and agentic product development, balancing feasibility and trade-offs.
• Implement effective collaboration practices conducive to globally dispersed teams, optimizing overlap between time zones.
• Assure continuous engineering quality and security by maintaining secure coding standards and promptly addressing code and vulnerability reports.
• Maintain sufficient technical involvement to contribute to design discussions, provide code reviews, and support developmental challenges without being a bottleneck.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 10 years in software engineering with a solid technical foundation prior to moving into leadership.
• Proven success managing distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.
• Experience leading teams focused on AI or machine learning product development is highly advantageous, particularly with practical knowledge of deploying AI features and agent-based products.
• Preferred experience delivering software for on-premises and SaaS/cloud platforms, ideally involving Kubernetes orchestration.
• Strong technical familiarity with Java, Python, and React/TypeScript stacks enabling guidance on architecture and quality without being the top coder.
• Demonstrated ability to lead delivery, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and cultivate a high-performing healthy team culture.
• Exposure to document intelligence, natural language processing, or data enrichment is beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.
