Job description
Job Overview and Responsibilities
As a Drill Machine Operator, you will be responsible for preparing and operating various drilling machines to fabricate metal components according to technical specifications. This role involves selecting appropriate drill bits, chucks, and collets per blueprint requirements and managing heavy material placement on the drill table with safety and precision.
- Set up drilling equipment by choosing and securing suitable drill accessories aligned with material thickness and design specifications.
- Operatively handle radial drill presses, pillar drills, and magnetic core drills to execute drilling tasks efficiently.
- Interpret engineering and fabrication blueprints, including weldment symbols, to accurately identify drilling points.
- Load and position heavy metal parts using clamps, vices, cranes, or hoists to ensure stable and secure drilling.
- Perform quality checks on finished products using precision instruments like calipers, micrometers, and go/no-go gauges to confirm tolerance adherence.
- Conduct routine machine upkeep by monitoring lubrication, clearing metal debris, and checking fluid levels.
Fabrication Process and Safety Procedures
- Use center punch and hammer to mark drilling points precisely, preventing misalignment of the drill bit.
- Adjust machine rotation speeds and feed rates according to material hardness to optimize drilling outcomes (e.g., slower speeds for stainless steel).
- Continuously apply cutting oil or coolant during operations to avoid overheating and maintain tool longevity and hole quality.
- Remove burrs cleanly using deburring tools or countersink bits to facilitate smooth final assembly and welding.
- Ensure all workpieces are securely fixed before drilling, and never hold raw materials manually during operation for safety.
Interview Preparation
Candidates are expected to bring the following documents and safety equipment to their interview:
- Two copies of an updated resume detailing prior machine operation experience.
- Original and photocopies of relevant technical certificates such as ITI Fitter or Machinist diplomas.
- Experience letters or relieving certificates from past fabrication roles.
- Government-issued photo identification (Aadhaar card, PAN card, or driver's license).
- 2 to 4 recent passport-sized photographs.
- Personal safety gear including safety shoes and safety glasses, owing to practical tests being conducted.
