The Cisco Distributed System Engineering (DSE) team is pivotal in developing leading-edge products powering some of the world's largest networks. They focus on the evolving networking landscape, especially building infrastructure for AI/ML workloads and growing internet use, leveraging open-source technologies and advanced Systems and Silicon Architecture. The team is composed of passionate developers and leaders who build large-scale distributed systems and actively engage with open-source communities.

Role Overview

As Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead in India, you will lead engineering teams working on SONiC software spanning platform enablement, manageability, control plane, and DevOps. You will collaborate closely with teams in the United States, foster technical talent, and influence the future trajectory of open networking globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide engineering teams and managers to deliver robust SONiC functionalities across multiple domains including platform enablement and DevOps.
• Lead the India site team by setting vision, culture, and priorities and maintaining strong partnerships with US and global teams.
• Manage workforce planning including hiring, performance, succession, and retention while promoting a diverse and high-performing workforce.
• Develop managers and engineering talent through mentorship, career advancement opportunities, and leading complex technical projects.
• Encourage engineering excellence, innovation, and active engagement with the SONiC open-source and networking ecosystem.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Over 15 years of professional experience in software engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience managing engineering managers or multiple software teams.
• Minimum 5 years of involvement with network operating systems, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or control/data-plane software.
• At least 3 years experienced in delivering production software on Linux using C++, Python, Go, or similar systems programming languages.
• Demonstrated skill in leading software delivery processes inclusive of planning, execution, release, and operational support.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant technical field such as Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
• Background in networking, SONiC, open networking, network operating systems, or large-scale cloud infrastructure.
• Experience spanning platform enablement, hardware abstraction, manageability, control plane, automation, and DevOps.
• Proven track record leading globally distributed teams of 50+ employees.
• Contributions to open-source projects, industry standards, technical communities, or related academic and patent activities.
