Director of Engineering

About the Role

We are in search of a seasoned and achievement-oriented Director of Engineering to head our software engineering department located in Kochi. This role involves overseeing engineering managers, technical leads, architects, and several software development teams, driving execution, delivery, engineering excellence, and ongoing innovation across multiple SaaS offerings.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multiple teams in software engineering, including product development, architecture, QA, DevOps, and engineering operations.
• Mentor and nurture Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, Architects, and senior engineers to build strong leadership.
• Formulate and steer engineering strategies that align with company business goals and product roadmaps.
• Ensure prompt delivery of robust, high-quality software releases.
• Implement engineering best practices such as coding standards, CI/CD workflows, and measurement of quality metrics.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, Customer Success, Security, and Executive Leadership.
• Lead technical architectural decisions and oversee long-term scalability of platforms.
• Enhance engineering efficiency, increase release velocity, boost system reliability, and ensure top operational performance.
• Create succession planning and growth paths for engineering personnel.
• Drive recruitment efforts to build and maintain high-caliber engineering teams.
• Manage resource planning, capacity management, and prioritization of engineering projects.
• Track and analyze KPIs like sprint velocity, delivery scheduling, quality parameters, technical debt, uptime, and issues affecting customers.
• Promote a culture founded on accountability, ownership, teamwork, innovation, and ongoing improvement.
• Advocate Agile methodologies across multiple Scrum teams.
• Recognize technological risks and develop preventive strategies accordingly.
• Support executive leadership with strategic engineering planning, forecasts, and initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
• Minimum 12 years in software engineering roles.
• At least 5 years of leadership experience managing large engineering organizations.
• Expertise managing teams that include Engineering Managers and diverse engineering disciplines.
• Proven track record delivering enterprise-level SaaS applications.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP), APIs, microservices, scalable software design.
• Experience applying Agile/Scrum frameworks.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, mentorship, and organizational capabilities.
• Experience working with geographically distributed global engineering teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
• Ability to integrate technical excellence while focusing on business needs.
• Experience in healthcare tech or regulated SaaS industries is a plus.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and automation of infrastructure.
• Leadership in driving digital transformation or modernization efforts.
• Knowledge of AI-augmented software development tools and platforms that improve engineering productivity.
