Senior Software Engineer - Catalog Engineering

About the Team

The Catalog Engineering team plays a crucial role in developing core platforms and services that empower Walmart to offer an extensive selection of products at competitive prices, delivering an excellent item setup and post-order experience. This platform supports third-party sellers and suppliers in listing, selling, and managing products on walmart.com and in-store. It acts as a unified source of truth by integrating catalog and item data from multiple sources, handling very high data volume and transaction throughput.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop intuitive, scalable software aligned with customer and business needs.
• Participate in architectural, design, and code reviews across multiple teams.
• Collaborate with peers to establish best practices and define client requirements.
• Engage with product management and business stakeholders to set priorities and deliver impactful products.
• Maintain codebase professionally, continuously updating to address evolving customer and company requirements.
• Analyze and rigorously test software prior to release for optimal performance.
• Efficiently troubleshoot coding issues in a fast-paced, high-impact setting.
• Develop security-conscious programs to protect private information and reinforce system trustworthiness.
• Continuously seek opportunities to enhance software efficiency and effectiveness.
• Support hiring efforts and contribute to building high-performing agile teams.
• Coach and train team members to ensure confidence in utilizing software applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (B.Tech, B.E., M.Tech, M.S.).
• 6 to 8 years of experience in designing and developing scalable applications and platforms.
• Hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful Web Services, and Kafka development.
• Solid understanding of systems design and distributed systems architectures.
• Proven exposure to SQL/NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and MongoDB.
• Experience with large-scale distributed services, ensuring scalability and fault tolerance.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like OpenStack, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS.
• Knowledge of build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tools including Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or closely related field.
• At least 1 year leading projects in information security or cybersecurity.
• Experience developing accessible digital products compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA, with knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility best practices.
• CISCO IT certification is an additional advantage.
