Design Engineer

About the Role and Company

Paires is an AI-powered fundraising platform that matches startup founders to suitable investors within a large, engaged global network. The platform conducts warm outreach that convertsconnectionsinto meetings. It is a profitable, self-funded product developed by a small, senior team with a flat structure that values fast delivery.

We are looking for a Design Engineer to take full ownership of our frontend development and maintain exceptional quality in the user interface. You will work alongside a highly skilled designer and have direct influence over the look and feel of the product, contributing your own refined aesthetic judgment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain production-quality UI components using Next.js and React with sole responsibility for the frontend codebase.
• Own the user experience for the founder’s product journey, the internal platform, and upcoming investor-facing portals that handle sensitive, data-rich interfaces.
• Perform full-stack development work as necessary to implement features end-to-end, covering both frontend and backend aspects.
• Collaborate closely with the designer to make informed design decisions and implement fine craftsmanship details that elevate the product's polish.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience shipping production React and Next.js applications used by real customers, with proficiency in Tailwind CSS and Supabase on the frontend.
• Ability to design and implement UI features independently without needing handoffs, demonstrating strong design sense and technical skills.
• A portfolio showcasing live, functional products rather than just mockups or marketing sites; prior work with dashboards, data-dense workflows, or AI-based user interfaces is preferred.
• Experience with end-to-end feature delivery, including backend development when required.
• Several years of professional production experience; this role is not suitable for entry-level candidates.
• Comfortable working quickly and critically reviewing AI-generated outputs, leveraging AI tools effectively.
• Desirable extras include familiarity with shadcn/ui libraries, design systems, motion design, complex data dashboards, and user interfaces for AI-powered products involving streaming data and human review.

Work Environment and Benefits

• Fully remote, asynchronous work culture with partial workday overlap with US Eastern Time during some hours.

• Competitive total compensation ranging from CAD 140,000 to CAD 230,000 annually.
