Role Overview

The Deputy Chief Technology Officer (CTO) collaborates closely with the CTO to oversee the daily functions of the global engineering organization. This role commands near-executive authority ensuring operational resilience, successful engineering delivery, organizational well-being, and budgetary control across all units. By bridging business objectives with top-tier technical execution, the Deputy CTO guarantees scalable and dependable operations of the company's high-frequency trading and asset management platforms, allowing the CTO to concentrate on long-term AI strategies and external engagements.

Success Metrics (12 to 18 Months)

• Consistent implementation of a unified engineering cadence (OKRs, KPIs, delivery processes) empowering divisional VPs towards autonomy.
• Successful transition of a multi-year trading platform consolidation from design to a minimum viable product demonstrating latency reduction and faster deployments.
• Launch of a centralized data architecture featuring a published catalog and defined cross-divisional service level agreements.
• Reliable achievement of regulatory milestones (MiCA, DORA, SOC 2) alongside controlled cloud and vendor expenditures aligned with business unit budgets.

Primary Responsibilities

• Direct daily global engineering operations encompassing ownership of OKRs, business reviews, and delivery pipelines, substituting for the CTO during board and executive interactions.
• Lead the strategic consolidation of the company’s trading systems spanning 80+ venues and 1,400+ markets and manage centralized data pipelines and governance frameworks.
• Oversee cybersecurity practices ensuring adherence to security policies and regulatory standards, cultivating a "controls-by-design" culture within engineering while preserving necessary data separation.
• Manage engineering budget, vendor partnerships, mergers and acquisitions integrations, mentor senior engineering leadership, refine career progression models, and expand teams across Europe and the United States.

Key Competencies

• Proven expertise in designing and managing operating models for global engineering teams including metrics, governance, and project delivery.
• Strong technical acumen with the ability to challenge senior architects and make critical, organization-wide trade-offs.
• Outstanding communication skills enabling clear and actionable summaries of complex technical risks, budgets, and scheduling for executive leadership.
• In-depth understanding of implementing security frameworks into day-to-day engineering processes and regulatory compliance.

Experience & Background Requirements

• Significant knowledge in trading and crypto infrastructure, focusing on low-latency distributed systems, algorithmic trading tech, digital assets, and market structures including custody and settlement. Experience with Rust is highly desirable.
• Extensive experience managing engineering across multiple divisions, handling large-scale platform consolidations and shared infrastructure teams.
• Proficiency operating in highly regulated environments with compliance focus on MiCA, DORA, and SOC 2 standards.
• Previous role as a senior deputy or trusted operational partner to a CTO or technical founder, effectively taking ownership of execution responsibilities.
• Demonstrated success in growing engineering organizations rapidly and integrating new teams through mergers and acquisitions.
