DB2 Database Administrator

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator specializing in Z/OS environments to provide expert support and optimization for database systems. The role involves assisting in application database design, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and supporting various stages of the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize SQL queries by application developers to enhance performance and ensure compliance with database standards.
• Participate in database schema design including creating and refining table structures, index creation, and defining relationships to support application features and enhancements.
• Troubleshoot database issues such as SQL error codes, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity problems raised by application teams.
• Manage database object migrations across environments including development, testing, user acceptance testing, and production.
• Continuously monitor and tune application databases, performing activities like reorganizing tablespaces, updating statistics, and adjusting buffer pools to optimize system responsiveness.
• Provide advice and best practice guidance to application developers concerning DB2 coding standards and effective query writing practices.
• Assist in application testing through data refreshes, preparing test datasets, and validating database components relevant to test cases.

Qualifications and Experience

• Educational background in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Preferably at least 5 years of hands-on experience working with DB2 on Z/OS platforms.
• Advantageous to have experience with Job Control Language (JCL) and knowledge of VSAM and mainframe storage concepts.
• Familiarity with DB2 utilities, backup, and recovery mechanisms.
• Strong communication skills including proficiency in both spoken and written English.
• Willingness and ability to work beyond regular hours including weekends when required.
