Role Overview

As a Customs Clearance Classifier based in Matraville, you will be instrumental in ensuring the precise classification and regulatory compliance of import and export shipments. Your role requires expert knowledge in tariff classification according to customs laws and the international harmonized system codes, supporting seamless and compliant customs processing, and enabling stellar service outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately classify goods using relevant customs regulations and HS codes.
• Examine shipment paperwork such as invoices and packing lists to assign correct tariff categories.
• Work collaboratively with customers, freight forwarders, and colleagues to clarify product information and resolve classification questions.
• Keep current with customs regulations, trade agreements, and tariff schedules to ensure compliance and furnish precise guidance.
• Identify inconsistencies in classification and documentation, communicating and resolving these issues proactively.
• Engage with the Australian Border Force and other authorities to satisfy regulatory demands.
• Maintain thorough documentation related to tariff classifications and clearance procedures.
• Coordinate with customs brokers, customer service, and sales teams to streamline customs clearance processes.
• Continuously monitor industry developments and regulatory changes to suggest improvements and boost efficiency.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Diploma of Customs Broking qualification is mandatory.
• Background experience in customs classification, brokerage, freight forwarding, or logistics.
• Familiarity with Australian customs laws and tariff classification methodologies.
• Strong analytical capabilities and effective problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements is a significant advantage.
