Responsibilities
The Facilities Management Department seeks a Custodian to ensure campus buildings and facilities maintain a clean, sanitary, and appealing appearance. Duties include daily cleaning of assigned areas, collection of recyclables and garbage, caring for floors and carpets, floor maintenance and refinishing, furniture setup and movement, snow and ice removal around entrances, and minor equipment maintenance. All tasks are performed professionally, efficiently, proactively, and safely, adhering to departmental and university policies.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must have completed Grade XII education with at least two years of recent custodial experience or an equivalent combination. The role requires effective communication skills, teamwork, a positive attitude, adaptability, initiative, and the ability to work independently. Additional assets include WHMIS certification and experience with industrial cleaning equipment and chemicals. Flexibility for evening and weekend shifts is considered advantageous.
Terms and Details
This is a permanent, full-time IUOE Level 4 position with day shifts scheduled from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The starting compensation is $22.00 per hour, equating to an annual salary of $45,760 based on a 40-hour workweek. The position location is Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Immediate start date preferred.
