Role Overview

The Custodian ensures the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of the facility, grounds, and property adhering to set standards. Responsibilities include routine cleaning, minor repairs, and providing authorized access to the premises.

Work Schedule

The position follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain indoor areas by cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, garbage disposal, and vacuuming.
  • Clean, relocate, and organize furniture as required.
  • Upkeep external grounds including lawn mowing, snow and ice clearance, window cleaning, litter removal, sidewalk sweeping, gardening tasks such as watering, pruning shrubs, and raking.
  • Secure the building by checking doors and windows, managing access, and locking up when necessary.
  • Replenish washroom supplies and handle distribution of received materials.
  • Perform spot cleaning on walls, floor stripping, waxing, and carpet shampooing as needed.
  • Implement and oversee preventative maintenance protocols for related equipment; suggest repairs and purchase requests.
  • Carry out minor maintenance in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and painting fields; report significant issues or safety hazards.
  • Plan and prioritize worktasks flexibly depending on circumstances.
  • Commence additional duties as assigned.

Communication

  • Engage occasionally in standard communications requiring politeness, tact, and composure.

Working Conditions

  • Work spans entire designated property and facilities using industrial cleaning equipment.
  • Jobs involve physical activities such as mopping, sweeping, bending, lifting over 20 pounds, ladder use, and fine motor tasks.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols when handling chemicals and equipment.
  • Exposure to challenging conditions including garbage handling, unpleasant odors, confrontational individuals, toxic substances, adverse weather, and potential risk of injuries from physical, chemical, biological hazards and repetitive strain.
  • Limited travel may be required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum educational attainment of some high school coursework.
  • Completion of WHMIS safety training.
  • At least three months but less than one year of relevant experience in cleaning and maintenance tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail along with problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Exemplifies integrity, confidentiality, professional ethics, fairness, and flexible attitude.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • Consent for background checks and vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean driver’s abstract.
  • Completion of designated online abuse prevention and health & safety trainings.
  • Successful clearance of all required screening examinations as per organizational standards.

Compensation

The salary is governed by a Collective Agreement with a target range of $23.28 to $23.66 per hour and a maximum rate of $24.03. Placement within this range depends on market factors and candidate qualifications.
