Custodian

Job Summary

The Custodian is tasked with ensuring the sanitation and tidiness of all designated premises while adhering to safety and operational protocols.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out routine janitorial tasks according to the prescribed daily schedule.
• Manage hazardous waste handling, including its collection, classification, storage, transportation, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging.
• Operate powered cleaning machinery safely and effectively.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderly conditions in assigned work areas consistently.
• Promptly report accidents, unsafe conditions, or hazards to supervisors.
• Follow company safety regulations, standards, and policies diligently.
• Intervene to prevent risky behaviors by oneself or coworkers.
• Collaborate with team members to complete assignments efficiently.
• Perform repetitive cleaning procedures as required.
• Ensure workspace and equipment remain neat and orderly.
• Comply with all company protocols and take supervisory guidance constructively.
• Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, colleagues, management, and customers.
• Support operational continuity by filling in during absences and assisting leads with task completion.
• Use appropriate personal protective gear and uphold a professional demeanor.
• Promote excellent customer service and awareness of environmental responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience

No formal education prerequisite. Preferred candidates have 3-6 months of relevant training or experience, or an equivalent blend of education and hands-on exposure.

Possession of a valid driver’s license may be necessary. Completion of all mandated safety and task-specific training is required. Forklift certification could be requested.

Skills and Abilities

• Being bilingual is advantageous.
• Competency to comprehend and interpret procedural documents and manuals.
• Effective verbal and written communication capabilities.
• Understanding of cleaning techniques, equipment maintenance, and chemicals with a willingness to share knowledge.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• The role demands physical activities including sitting, listening, speaking, and regularly lifting/moving items up to 35 pounds.
• The working conditions may present typical environmental exposures related to janitorial tasks.

Work Schedules and Compensation

Custodial Lead hourly wage ranges between 20 to 21 CAD with shifts Sunday to Thursday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

Custodian hourly wage ranges from 17 to 18 CAD with shift options: Tuesday-Saturday 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, Sunday-Thursday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, or Tuesday-Saturday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
