About the Role
Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering and professional services supporting US government and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Hazardous Waste Supervisor to oversee hazardous waste management and disposal operations across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor hazardous waste personnel on safe procedures for managing Hazardous Waste Accumulation and Storage Areas.
- Implement and enforce ground safety programs ensuring compliance with contractual and host installation standards.
- Support decontamination activities as required and conduct workplace safety inspections per company and host base safety criteria.
- Perform safety inspections in line with ISO standards and provide safety briefings on OSHA regulations, HAZMAT communications, and employee rights to all team members.
- Collect and report data for all required safety audits and support host installation MSDS management.
- Monitor proper storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials according to government-hosted standards.
- Collaborate with the Government Safety Office and participate in installation-specific safety committees.
- Address safety issues and near-miss reporting promptly and report on employee safety, accidents, and injuries to management.
- Ensure hazardous materials are accurately labeled, documented in approved systems, properly packaged, and accompanied by Material Safety Data Sheets.
- Maintain correct storage, segregation, and inspection procedures for hazardous assets.
- Serve as primary contact for collection and shipping preparation of contractor-generated hazardous waste.
- Review safety documentation, detect recurring safety issues, and initiate corrective measures.
- Guarantee that hazardous materials and waste from aircraft support equipment and related maintenance are properly managed in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Expertise
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experienced in handling hazardous materials safely, including segregation and neutralization of excess.
- Familiarity with OSHA and EPA regulations is essential.
- Knowledge of ANSI and NFPA standards is preferred.
- Understanding of U.S. and international import/export regulations.
- Well-versed in Federal, State, Local, and County environmental laws and policies.
Experience and Education Qualifications
- At least four years of relevant hazardous materials experience, including categorization, consolidation, and neutralization.
- Possession of OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification plus annual 8-hour refresher; alternative company training recognized for foreign/local nationals.
- Minimum two years experience handling receipt, storage, distribution, and disposal of materials used at contractor sites.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to meet physical demands and pass medical examinations for daily tasks.
- Capability to lift, push, or pull objects possibly exceeding 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work outdoors or in maintenance shops subjected to drafty, noisy, and dirty conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise from equipment and potential risks of electrical shock or moving mechanical parts.
