Job Overview
The Consultant Physician role involves comprehensive patient evaluation and management rooted in evidence-based medicine. This position requires adherence to the standards and policies established by the employing healthcare organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Carry out clinical duties aligned with granted clinical privileges.
- Perform detailed assessments of patients, including clinical, socioeconomic, psychological, and functional factors, thoroughly documenting these in medical records.
- Create patient care plans based on current best practices and document plans clearly in patient files.
- Ensure the implementation of care plans in a timely fashion.
- Act as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for admitted inpatients under their care.
- At admission, develop a discharge strategy and involve discharge-planning services early when necessary.
- Conduct daily evaluations of inpatients under their care, documenting findings and care plans in SOAP notes.
- Provide prompt responses to medical consultations.
- Document all medical interventions in a timely manner, complying with established documentation standards.
- Complete and verify discharge summaries punctually, ensuring patients receive clear discharge instructions and medication education before they leave.
- Participate actively in healthcare facility duties and respond as per departmental call schedules.
- Attend departmental and general meetings, contributing suggestions to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and patient satisfaction.
- Prepare medical reports for patients adhering to the organization's format and timeliness requirements.
- Support teaching rounds and educational activities as directed by the medical chairperson.
- Educate patients and their families about health, treatments, and prevention strategies.
- Undertake other relevant duties within the job scope as assigned.
Continuous Improvement and Compliance
- Perform responsibilities aligned with person-centered care values.
- Participate actively in ongoing quality improvement efforts.
- Follow all safety protocols and proactively address workplace safety concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information encountered during work.
- Adhere to cybersecurity policies and participate in associated training to safeguard organizational systems.
- Uphold the organization's code of conduct, ethical standards, and policies.
- Complete required mandatory education timely, at least one month before expiration.
Skills and Abilities
- Clear and effective communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and non-medical personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational abilities and capacity to work well under high-pressure situations.
Experience and Educational Qualifications
- Completion of specialty training and requisite experience as mandated by the regional health regulatory authority in recognized medical centers.
- Possession of the highest clinical degree in the specialty or subspecialty from an accredited medical institution.
Languages and Certifications
- Fluency in both oral and written English and Arabic.
- Valid medical license as required by regional regulatory bodies (e.g., SCFHS or DHA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and advanced licenses where applicable.
