The Opportunity

LegalVision is inviting applications for a skilled Senior Associate to join their burgeoning ANZ Construction & Infrastructure division, focused on developing their construction practice in New Zealand. The role involves handling various construction, infrastructure, and commercial legal matters, serving clients from small businesses to large enterprises, emphasising efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality legal solutions.

The New Zealand team operates fully remotely, with occasional company events and access to coworking spaces, including a dedicated Christchurch office. The successful candidate will receive a home office setup allowance.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, assess, and negotiate a diverse set of construction contracts such as NZS 3910, NZS 3916, NZ 3604-based contracts, Residential Building Contracts, Consultancy Agreements, and Subcontractor Agreements.
• Provide guidance on strategies for contract procurement.
• Support clients with contractual claims and interpretation issues.
• Advise clients on compliance with regulations including security of payment claims, Construction Contracts Act 2002, Building Act 2004, Licensed Building Practitioner standards, and relevant commercial building licensing and regulatory matters.
• Establish and nurture client relationships as their reliable legal advisor, proactively identifying ways to provide business value.
• Contribute to team and business development via producing articles, hosting external webinars, and participating in internal training initiatives through the LV Academy.

The Ideal Candidate

• Possesses 5+ years of exemplary legal experience from distinguished private practice or in-house roles, specifically working on front-end construction and infrastructure legal matters, with additional experience in general commercial contracts considered advantageous.
• Demonstrates commercial acumen and a pragmatic, solution-focused approach.
• Capable of explaining complex legal topics clearly and practically to clients without legal backgrounds.
• Exhibits strong project management skills with the capability to manage cases independently while balancing multiple client priorities in a dynamic setting.
• Displays excellent interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships with clients and team members.
• Works autonomously yet collaborates effectively in a high-performing team environment.
