About the Role

Our client, a reputable construction firm based in Dublin, is seeking a seasoned Construction Estimator to join their team. This role offers an excellent chance for an individual with solid commercial awareness and construction expertise to take charge of developing precise and competitive cost estimates and provide support to Commercial and Estimating departments during the pre-contract and tender phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates including bills of quantities and measurements from architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Analyze tender documents and site details to identify risks, exclusions, provisional amounts, and commercial opportunities.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring alignment with project scope and schedule.
  • Maintain up-to-date cost databases, estimating templates, and precedent records.
  • Collaborate with design, commercial, and site teams to resolve technical queries and verify pricing assumptions.
  • Produce detailed pricing breakdowns, cost summaries, and compile tender submission documents.
  • Support identification of cost-saving measures and manage commercial risks effectively.
  • Keep estimating records precise and current at all times.
  • Attend tender and bid meetings, document actions, and provide updates on pricing progress.
  • Adhere strictly to company procedures as well as health, safety, quality, and data standards throughout estimating activities.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven background as an Estimator within the construction industry.
  • Experience with main contractors, construction companies, or consultancy firms is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of commercial tendering and pre-contract processes.
  • Skilled in measurement take-offs and preparing bills of quantities.
  • Excellent numerical aptitude and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Well-versed in construction methods, materials, equipment, and subcontractor procurement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with estimating software, cost management systems, or document control platforms is advantageous.
  • Effective organisational and time management capabilities to juggle multiple tenders under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable engaging with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Proactive, commercially savvy, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to operate efficiently independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
