Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned Business Development Manager with extensive expertise in the power generation sector. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of overseeing all phases of large-scale power projects, from initial opportunity identification and feasibility study through to commercial structuring, contract negotiation, project development, and execution. Experience should emphasize conventional power generation assets, though knowledge of renewable energy such as solar and wind is a valuable complement.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct full lifecycle management of large-scale power generation projects, covering opportunity discovery, feasibility and investment evaluations, commercial structuring, negotiations, and project delivery.
- Identify and appraise new power sector investments internationally, conducting comprehensive commercial, financial, technical, and market analysis to inform investment decisions.
- Lead evaluation of commercial risks and negotiate contracts collaboratively with developers, contractors, partners, advisors, and other stakeholders; oversee key project and legal documents.
- Evaluate technical and project risks including construction, EPC contracts, operations, and delivery; coordinate with technical, financial, M&A, and specialized teams.
- Develop and sustain strategic partnerships with developers, contractors, investors, business associates, consultants, and government entities to support project execution and drive long-term growth.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related fields from a recognized university; MBA preferred.
- At least 12 years of relevant power generation experience, including a minimum of 5 years in progressively responsible managerial roles.
- Demonstrated success managing the end-to-end development of large-scale power projects, with substantial involvement in conventional power plant projects; experience limited to renewable energy alone is insufficient.
- Hands-on expertise in commercial risk assessment, financial feasibility studies, legal and contractual negotiations, and technical risk evaluation related to power projects.
- Strong strategic thinking, negotiation skills, stakeholder management, and leadership qualities, with good understanding of international power markets. Experience in solar and wind power is considered advantageous when coupled with a strong conventional power background.
