Role Overview
The Associate Sommelier is entrusted with providing warm, professional, and effective wine service that enhances the overall dining experience of guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently serve wine ensuring proper conditions—appropriate glassware, optimal temperature, and presentation.
- Support the Sommelier by guiding guests on wine selection, offering recommendations, and processing orders.
- Promote wine offerings by encouraging aperitifs, upselling wines by the glass or bottle, and conducting post-meal wine service.
- Maintain impeccable personal appearance consistent with the hotel's grooming standards.
- Welcome and bid farewell to guests courteously and with genuine friendliness.
- Address guests personally by their names where suitable to create a personalized experience.
- Adapt service to accommodate any special guest requests, delivering individualized service with warmth.
- Apply the Heartist® philosophy to ensure guests feel welcomed, valued, and special throughout their visit.
- Seek opportunities to enhance sales and add guest value, such as offering additional glasses of wine.
- Accurately take wine orders and ensure timely collection and delivery of beverages.
- Efficiently manage wine preparation areas including mise-en-place setup, wine stock retrieval aligned with par stock, cellar organization, requisition processes, and completing daily wine reports.
- Maintain cleanliness and uphold safety standards in all wine service areas.
- Engage in training programs designed to deepen wine knowledge and skills.
- Follow all operational guidelines outlined in the colleague handbook.
- Comply with emergency, health, and safety procedures.
- Foster and maintain cooperative relationships with team members and leadership.
- Align service quality and personal performance with Accor's core values including Guest Passion, Trust, Sustainable Performance, Spirit of Conquest, Innovation, and Respect.
- Contribute positively to the hotel's Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability initiatives.
- Carry out additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Profile
- Possesses a Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality or a related field.
- Previous experience in wine-related roles is advantageous, such as wine production, sales, or certified qualifications like Master Court Sommelier or WSET Level 2.
- Has 6 to 12 months experience in wine service or equivalent operational roles.
- Background in service or retail sectors.
- Demonstrates a strong knowledge of wine, beverages, and food, gained through professional exposure or personal interest.
- Exhibits effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Shows keen enthusiasm and passion for wine.
- Maintains a presentable and polished appearance.
- Is energetic, enthusiastic, and collaborates well as a team member.
