Position Overview
The Associate Professor role in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy at a premier NABH-accredited super speciality teaching hospital in Northeast India involves taking on an academic and clinical leadership position. The appointed professional will engage in delivering high-standard medical education to undergraduate MBBS and postgraduate students, managing advanced dermatological patient care including outpatient, inpatient, and emergency cases, and contributing to research and publications within the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structured theoretical and practical lectures aligned with university curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Lead bedside clinical teaching, case-based discussions, seminars, and journal clubs for residents, interns, and PG students.
- Mentor postgraduate residents in clinical presentations, thesis development, and research projects.
- Take active part in curriculum planning, examination duties, and academic assessments.
- Provide consistent clinical care in OPD, IPD, and emergency settings, overseeing diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, sexually transmitted infections, venereology, and leprosy.
- Perform, supervise, and instruct dermatological procedures including skin biopsies, cautery, laser treatments, minor surgeries, and dermatosurgery.
- Ensure proper documentation of patient records adhering to clinical and NABH standards.
- Contribute to departmental research efforts, lead clinical trials, and publish scientific articles in indexed journals as required by NMC.
- Assist with departmental administration including academic planning and quality improvement programs.
- Participate in NABH compliance, continuing medical education, workshops, and conferences to support departmental and institutional initiatives.
- Fulfill additional duties as delegated by the Head of Department.
Mandatory Qualifications and Eligibility
- MBBS degree from a recognized medical institution.
- Postgraduate qualification MD, MS, or DNB in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy from an accredited university.
- Teaching experience meeting one of: at least 4 years as Assistant Professor in a recognized medical institution; or 5 years in a government medical institution; or 5 years of post-PG clinical experience as Armed Forces Specialist with 3 years as Assistant Professor in Armed Forces teaching hospital.
- Minimum two research publications as one of the first three authors post-Assistant Professor appointment.
- Completion of Basic Course in Biomedical Research recognized by NMC.
- Completion or willingness to undergo Basic Course in Medical Education for the respective specialty.
- Preferably at least 1 year experience as Senior Resident at a medical college or teaching hospital.
- Valid registration with State Medical Council or National Medical Commission.
Skills and Competencies
- In-depth clinical knowledge in diagnosing and managing skin diseases, sexually transmitted infections, venereology, and leprosy.
- Expertise in dermatosurgery, laser therapies, cautery, and emergency dermatological procedures.
- Proficient in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and mentoring thesis work.
- Experience in academic curriculum development and familiarity with NMC regulations.
- Strong research capabilities, including biomedical research methodology and publication skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, team leadership, organizational abilities, and patient-focused care.
- Adaptability to a teaching hospital setting and commitment to quality and safety standards.
