Job Summary
The position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy is based at a 500-bed NABH-accredited multi-speciality teaching hospital in Northeast India. This full-time faculty role involves comprehensive undergraduate education, clinical care across various hospital departments, and research aligned with National Medical Commission mandates. It offers a foundational academic appointment with significant growth opportunities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver theoretical and practical instruction in Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy to MBBS students according to university guidelines.
- Conduct bedside clinical demonstrations, practicals, and case discussions for students and interns.
- Participate actively in departmental academic forums such as seminars and journal clubs.
- Assist with assessments and examinations of undergraduate medical students.
- Manage outpatient department (OPD) consultations providing evidence-based care.
- Provide inpatient dermatological care, overseeing admitted cases and handling referrals.
- Diagnose and treat common skin diseases, sexually transmitted infections, and leprosy.
- Attend emergency dermatology cases during on-call periods.
- Carry out or supervise dermatological surgeries and procedures with postgraduate trainees.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in alignment with hospital protocols and NABH standards.
- Publish research in indexed journals and contribute regularly to medical literature.
- Support senior faculty and postgraduates in research initiatives, including data gathering and analysis.
- Complete the National Medical Commission-mandated Basic Course in Biomedical Research if not already done.
- Assist department head with administrative duties, departmental planning, and quality improvement projects including NABH accreditation activities.
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) and professional development programs.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by departmental leadership.
Qualifications and Eligibility
- MBBS degree from a recognized medical institution.
- Postgraduate qualification (MD, MS, or DNB) in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy.
- Experience criteria (must satisfy one): one year as Senior Resident in Dermatology or equivalent tutor experience; or at least one year teaching experience as Armed Forces Specialist Medical Officer; or two years clinical experience post-PG in a recognized government hospital; or specific experience for diploma holders as outlined by NMC regulations.
- Valid registration with State Medical Council or National Medical Commission.
- Completion of the Basic Course in Biomedical Research per NMC requirements is mandatory within two years of appointment if not already completed.
- Preference for candidates with previous teaching hospital experience linked with recognized universities.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Clinical expertise in managing outpatient and inpatient dermatology cases, sexually transmitted infections, leprosy treatment, dermatosurgical procedures, and emergency dermatology.
- Competence in teaching undergraduate medical students including lecture delivery, bedside teaching, and assessments.
- Research skills including publication in indexed journals and compliance with NMC regulations.
- Strong communication abilities, teamwork, organizational skills, and patient-focused care.
- Adaptability and collaboration within a teaching hospital environment.
