Assistant Winemaker

Position Overview

We are seeking a committed Assistant Winemaker who combines a passion for wine with a good sense of humour. This role involves supporting various winemaking activities, covering the entire process from grape reception to bottling preparation. You will engage hands-on in crafting a variety of premium Marlborough varietal wines distributed globally.

Work Environment

The role is based at our family-owned estate in Blenheim, located in the picturesque Marlborough wine region on the Golden Mile. You will collaborate with experienced winemakers and cellar staff throughout the year and lead a group of young professionals during the harvest season.

Key Qualifications and Skills

• Genuine enthusiasm for wine
• Proven leadership abilities and experience in staff supervision
• Effective communication skills in English
• Minimum of three vintages working with cool climate grape varieties
• Familiarity with winemaking record keeping software
• A tertiary degree or qualification in Winemaking
• Hands-on experience with winery machinery operations
• Tasting skills combined with curiosity about wine characteristics
• Forklift license
• A strong commitment to safety practices
• Ability to bake assorted small treats including savouries, croissants, pastries, slices, and cakes
• A cheerful, humorous disposition
