Job description

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering Assigned Certifier duties across a variety of projects including commercial, residential, industrial, and public sectors. Collaborating closely with clients, architects, contractors, and other consultants, you will ensure compliance and certification are maintained throughout the project lifecycle according to the Building Control Regulations and the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations (BC(A)R).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as an Assigned Certifier in line with Building Control Regulations and BC(A)R.
  • Develop and oversee project inspection and certification plans.
  • Coordinate activities and communications among clients, contractors, architects, design teams, and stakeholders.
  • Review design and construction documents to confirm compliance with Building Regulations.
  • Conduct and organize site inspections at key stages of the project.
  • Keep detailed records of inspections, including observations, photographs, and certification paperwork.
  • Analyze inspection reports, ancillary certificates, and other supporting documentation.
  • Identify compliance issues and monitor their resolution.
  • Collaborate with the Design Certifier and project team to ensure seamless compliance management.
  • Support preparation of BCMS documentation and statutory submissions.
  • Lead the certification process from initiation to final submission of required documents.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on compliance matters to clients and project teams.
  • Engage with Building Control Authorities and statutory bodies as necessary.
  • Assist in improving company procedures, templates, and quality management systems.

Requirements

  • Relevant academic qualification in engineering, architecture, building surveying, construction, or related fields.
  • Proven construction industry experience, ideally within consultancy settings.
  • Past experience as an Assigned Certifier or extensive exposure to BC(A)R compliance.
  • Thorough understanding of Irish Building Regulations, BC(A)R, and related Technical Guidance Documents.
  • Good knowledge of construction techniques, building services, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Strong attention to detail with a systematic approach to inspections and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines effectively.
  • Possession of a full Irish or European driving licence and readiness to travel to project locations.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working on commercial, residential, industrial, or public sector projects.
  • Relevant professional accreditation or Chartered status.
  • Familiarity with BCMS and statutory online submission processes.
  • Experience preparing or evaluating inspection plans, ancillary certificates, and completion documentation.
  • Understanding of construction health and safety standards.
  • Previous work experience in a multidisciplinary engineering or professional consultancy environment.
